The International Folkloric Festival possesses a significant place in Lefkada’s events; it takes place unfailingly the last week of August every year since 1962 and offers unmatched appeal to the center of the city. Music and dance groups from all over the world participate in this event, making it a multicultural festivity where people from all countries fraternize.

Furthermore, fests of speech and art are really substantial in the cultural summer of Lefkada. They were organized for the first time in 1955 and ever since the annual program includes all the forms of art. Through different periods of time a great deal of Greek and international artists have participated with huge success.

Earlier, during the Easter period, a lot of festivities take place such as the Easter flea markets during the Holy Week, the traditional products market in Lazarata and Good Friday procession of the bier of Christ in every village as well as meeting of all the processions that take place in the city in the city center under the melodies of the Philharmonic orchestra.

Later, in May and June there is the Painting exhibition of Ionian Islands, photography exhibitions, youth festivals, the “Green” half-Marathon of Lefkada (21,1km), a lot of traditional folk festivals and the big Religious Festival of the Holy Spirit in the Sacred Monastery of Faneromeni.

After that, in July a Philharmonic Meeting takes place as well as painting exhibitions, the traditional threshing, the festivity of Saint Kyriaki and a lot of folk festivals.

Finally, in August and in September, apart from the International Folkloric Festival, there are also other events taking place all over the island such as the Fest of Honey in Dragano, the Fest of Wine in Frya, the Fest of Lentil in Egklouvi, the Traditional Festivity of Assumption of Holy Mary, the Barcarolle in the city center and in Lygia and the Book Fair in the city center.
